CAMPUS ANNOUNCEMENTS
The Department of Public Safety would like to remind the campus community about telephone
procedures to get assistance from Mines Police. The Golden Police Department does all
radio dispatching of Mines officers 24/7. For non-emergencies or information, call 3333
first. If there is no answer, leave a message or let the call roll to Golden Dispatch. (If
you leave a message, be aware that the message may not be checked during non-office
hours.) If it's not an emergency but you need an officer, let the call roll to Golden. In
any urgent situation always call 911.
Shipping hazardous material? Any transport of dangerous goods must be coordinated through
the Environmental Health and Safety Department (EHS). Remember that transport
includes: shipping via U.S. Postal Service, UPS, FedEx, etc.; transporting in state or
personal vehicles; carrying on your person in public transportation (e.g. on an airplane).
Complete the pre-shipment form and submit it to EHS. Please call ext. 3316 with any

RECOGNITIONS
John Tilton, University Professor Emeritus and Research Professor in the Division of
Economics and Business, recently gave a public lecture at the ETH in Zurich, Switzerland,
where he is spending two months as a guest professor in the Institute of Environmental
Decisions. He spoke on the Resource Curse or the belief that mineral and other resource
production in developing countries actually retards their economic growth. The talk was
based on research that he and Graham Davis, also a professor in the division, have been
conducting together over the past several years.
